All about Bud Washing

Bud washing is something most people don’t realize they have to do. But similar to how you clean veggies and the like, you will want to clean your weed. Why? Well, there are particles from the soil, creepy crawlies, and also is something that helps with reducing the debris that shows up during the phase of flowering, including small eggs from insects, and it can definitely impact the weed quality as well.

What is it?

This is literally what it says it is. It’s basically you take your cannabis flower, put it in water, and literally clean them. you’ve probably never heard of this because so few people do this. But even the commercial options need this, since cannabis flower is very dirt and dust-prone, and there are other different organisms that make a home here.

Buds that are grown both inside and outside get exposed to a variety of contaminants. While colas do gather a bit of dust, they can have eggs and mites, and by dunking on this, you can make sure that the weed you have is clean, and good for you to use as well, definitely worth it for those who want something that’s safe and healthy for them to use.

Isn’t it counterproductive?

While some people may wonder if they wash them they’ll lose the trichomes which offer the flavor and potency, this actually won't’ impact it.  The HTC and CBD in this are hydrophobic and are soluble by the fat, so you won’t lose this if you put the bud in the water. Plus, the terpenes and the floral elements are basically in the resin, so as long as you’re mindful, you’ll keep this. You can submerge them, and then dry them, but a little bit of time definitely impacts the quality of the weed, especially if you’re worried about there being contaminants on this.

Pros and cons

There are pros and cons to this, and it’s important to consider. The first, is that it gets rid of the eggs and mites, while also getting rid of soil and dust too, which are usually still there even after it’s been processed at a dispensary. Plus, it makes the weed taste a whole lot better, since there isn’t any dust or mites that are there, allowing the terpenes to shine on through.

Finally, it also gets rid of the pesticides along with the other resides that are there, important chemicals that can play a big part of the quality of this.  You should make sure to remove as many of those residues that you can. Are there different cons to this too? Well, the biggest thing, s that it takes a bit longer to dry. It also can cause them to mold if you’re not careful, since you are coating it with some water.

Speaking of mold, while this can get rid of the debris, all pathogens will not be able to be removed, since this is actually already in the cells of the plant. If you notice mold and mildew on your weed, make sure to toss it, as that is bad weed.

Now that you know a bit about this, but there are a few ways for you to clean this.  There is diluted hydrogen peroxide, which is quite common, and it gets rid of bacteria. You can also get water that’s gone through revers osmosis to help get rid of the chemicals. Finally, lemon and baking soda is another good one, and it also offers you a clean, healthy bud that will be great for you to consume too.
