Cannabis and Gabapentin

If you’re someone who uses gabapentin, you may wonder if marijuana and gabapentin work together. They can, but it’s best to discuss this with your doctor or the pharmacist you go to before you try to combine this. 

First, what's Gabapentin 

Gabapentin is basically a prescription medication that works as an anticonvulsant, and it can be helped with epilepsy and convulsions that are associated with this. It comes in solutions, tablets, and other forms, and it is sold under different names including Horizant, Neurontin, and others. 

Basically how it works is simple. It basically treats all of these, and also works with inflammation and pain that you have after surgery, along with other neurological issues. There are side effects, and they include: 

• Feeling drowsy 

• Vision which is blurred 

• Issues with memory and recall 

• Dizziness 

• Tremors and shaking 

• Coordination issues 

There are also more severe side effects including pain in the chest, coughing, and chills too. 

The benefits and drawback so mixing 

Right now, the research that's been done on gabapentin and marijuana are lacking severely, and some research does say that both marijuana and gabapentin may work together to offer synergistic interactions between both of these things, so both of them together can help with neuropathy, seizures, and the like. 

There is also some possibility of using this in order to lessen or replace the gabapentin that's in the body, to reduce the side effects of such as ell. 

However, there are a few side effects and risks that come with it too. Both of these can make you feel much more sedated, or it can make you anxious and impair your motor controls. Both cannabis and gabapentin both have very severe side effects that, while rare, can happen. if you combine them, they can potentially be compounded. 

Some also do experience impairment of their cognitive abilities, along with dizziness too. If you’re someone who struggles with this, you may want to avoid mixing these two together when you’re driving or operating some machinery. 

There is one study which discusses the effects of mixing gabapentin with cannabis, and also how the treatments might alleviate the cannabis use disorder withdrawal symptoms. It also may be used to help minimize cannabis dependence. This is because gabapentin may offer the similar pathway activating that THC does, and it can help with ensuring that the endocannabinoid system of reliance of THC is used, and also limits the overall consumption. 

Right now, the evidence on this is still lacking, and there are no set effects that may come from mixing these together.  Gabapentin might be very effective at providing the right neuropathic pain relieving capabilities that come ith this, especially if you compare this to the isolation of just one or the other. These can work together, but it’s ultimately up to you and your needs. 

There are some studies that have pointed to the effect that CBD have on the body, reducing the frequency and the intensity of different seizures and other kinds of neuropathic conditions, and it can really help with improving the needs that are there 

If you’re going to talk to your doctor about mixing these together, discuss whether or not CBD along with gabapentin may be good for you, as it can help with anxiety and stress, and also work to help with reducing the side effects that come from gabapentin.
